Harry Potter the final couldn't have possibly be without the
underlying theme of Christ and his resurrection! JK Rowling was
probably trying to get back in the good books of the Vatican...Just
shows her lack of originality but never the less the final saga
"Harry Potter, and the Deadly Hallows" does strike a chord. I was
wondering which one was it? Then I realised, what she makes the
underlying theme: Love...Yeah, through numerous Bollywood
films and still we cant tire from the concept of "Love" and
relationships, The "ma", the "dost", the "unfaltering lover" love
and relationship...Sans magic, Harry Potter could make a good
Bollywood movie, Yeah, I know there are takers in Hollywood
(good books, Mediocre films) but love is one thing we Indians
never tire of....So I was forced to think of the concept after reading the book and an incident occurred simultaneously I was forced to think further..
As the evening bell rang in my house, and when I opened the
door, my house hold servant entered with what looked like a huge
bush.. I was astonished first but later the horrible (and smelly
bushy branch at least five feet tall , almost my height) was
presented to my mother. As I looked on aghast, It turned out to be
some rare expensive spice. The scene was comical but my mother
seemed visibly touched. I didn't understand what was just
transpiring but it was something weird.. Later my mother told me,
that off all the people this lady worked for she seemed to
remember my mother, imagine, when the bush was being pruned
she thought of me, while she could have sold it for a good price..
She landed here and presented the gift...Reflecting on the thought
I did wonder, we were her employers, but she turned out to be the
bigger person...Reminded me of Lord of the Rings where "even
the smallest creature had the power to change".
Made me positive in a sense..Mom was not going to give her pay raises for bringing bushes home and For what ever reason she found only my mother is not hard to see. We as a matter of principle have been treating
our people with respect and love, and At the end of the day, looks
like that's all we all crave for..
So its not so hard for Potter fans to immediately associate with him because the bigger concepts are much harder to understand..Its more difficult to understand that Ambanis and their SEZ plans are more hazardous than Voldemort's plan and "for greater good" is a leaf out of Arundhati Roy's essay (my favourite) and Politicians and administrators favourite quote where some have to "pay "(experienced it on my own account, the loser side so I know)......So while bigger problems linger on, we will make do with "love" because, that's one thing which is not
hard to understand and makes for great children's books....

Chatting with an old friend yesterday, we ended up talking about why do people like Harry Potter on the pretext of the book being so expensive. It's the fact that when we read about people with problems bigger than ourselves and elevated from the realm of reality, we find our problems smaller and our own heart breaks easier to deal with. The world seems less sinster and an easier place to like. ...Thats why fairy tales always have happy endings, as if as a matter of principles.. Thats why children never tire of hearing the same story again and again, because YOU KNOW things will be fine. The same reason we like bollywood movies (specially me, despite reprimand from all my friends and relatives). In real world you dont know whats going to happen, sometimes its ok to like things that are silly. For Harry its not magic that gets to our hearts but some thing else, more humane, more achievable, may be a little silly.. ..So that for some time we dont have to worry about our jobs, our boyfriends and their girlfriends, Voldemort is sinster enough to earn our hatred....

I had great expectations from India’s first women president and as Pratibha Patil occupies her position, I can’t help but mourn a great loss. No, I dint expect her to be a rocket scientist or something else but there could have been certain dignity surrounding her candidature. As I see her giving her victory poses I cant help draw parallels with the US elections at hand where the president actually does have powers. There too the question seems like their world does not need able leaders but people who “represent” something, (race, gender?).
This time around there will be “history” made in US too.. They’d either have a black President or a Female President. The real question is: would that make a difference to the world that we live in today? Would US stop the war in Iraq? Would the Trade restrictions (suppressive) be lifted on imports and implemented on exports? As for war in Iraq and numerous other nations, US and allies are non-committal. It’s precisely what Naom Chowmsky said about politicians: (not a direct quote but the gist) they go same schools, join same secret clubs, party with the same crowd and come back and join different parties, they are all essentially the same. Its just like Kyoto protocol which was ratified by neither the Bush or Clinton administration.
Essentially they are all the same so what difference do we expect from our President who actually holds no powers? Nothing! Only a little bit dignity is all we want (maybe a good PR dept may do the trick)
And we are just robbed even of that…

Really I guess my title is not confusing this time. It begins with Superman and He`man being nothing but breakable toys..disappointing. Then I believe its nothing but chain reaction, your dad then your mom then your favourite teacher, writers, actors, mentors.... The list becomes endless and all these people become human beings, who are we kidding? why do we still believe in people, invest our attentions, and compassions. Quite truthfully, I think its like falling in love, no matter how many times you fall flat on your face you still can't fail to believe or have faith.. Life will continue teaching us lessons, we fail to learn. I guess so much prelude is enough, there are no second choices.. As for my personal experiences, I am talking about my mentor failing me. So many times have I promised myself not to get attached to people but I did and I did fall right on my face (again..)
So here is a word of advise for any one of you headed in direction that I have been to, eg. to have so much faith that it hurts and then end up just playing a part you dont need to.. Be strong, dont give in to impulses or else you may end up really lost into a place of no return... Dont let your heroes disappoint you..
